    My small stones oracle

Wednesday, July 25, 2007, 03:45 PM [Tarot and Oracles]

Unlike some, I've never been able to connect to runes. I've found the idea of making my own set exciting but considering I don't like runes that was out of the question. I've seen a few sets of stones that are obviously invented and have no background whatsoever, unlike the runes and oghams. I use oghams but it a set of cards and not stones or wood sticks, it's the oracle Green Man Tree Oracle by John Matthews, beautiful art by Will Worthington. So while discussing about such sets in ISRC Forum, about maybe making our own oracles, I came up with the idea of this oracle made out of FIMO. I've thought about symbols and I finally made the oracle. The small FIMO stones I made are in metallic copper and I painted the symbols with metallic copper paint. I put here a picture of the oracle but there are more in the Gallery. I am just trying to inspire you to make your own set of stones with you own symbols. I put here my symbols to give you ideas. I've just noticed that I lost the stone Home. Good stones can turn bad depending of surrending stones.

Home: where our heart is, the center of our lives, family, friends, shelter.

Sword: conflict, fight, argument, to be careful about what we say and do for it can be used against us.

    Broken sword: defeat, broken pride.

Tree: growth, abundance, lastingness, success, stability, organisation, structure, work, also represents the element earth.

Thunder: bad situation, bad outlook, problems.

Two arrows meeting at the sharp points: meeting, reunion, party, group of persons.

One arrow: movement, travel, change, distance.

    Star: hope, wish, destiny.

    Letter: news.

    Tear: sorrow.

    One full dot: beginning, birth.

Sun: happiness, clarity, truth, success, male, optimism, self-confidence.

Unfinished symbol: something unfinished, problem not resolved yet, overestimating ourself in a situation, something at the infancy stage, too soon to tell.

Aquarius sign: thoughts, lucidity, ideas, project, dreams, represent the element air.

Dollar sign ($): money, abundance, success, gambling (in negative).

Moon: moody, emotions, mystery, delay, confusion, lies, deceit, doubt, female, represents the element water.

Flame: passion, energy, dynamism, self-confidence, represents the element fire.

    Scythe: end, death, change.

    Flower: joy, happiness, gift.

    One bland one: surprise, unexpected.

One heart: warm and cozy feelings (but not necessarily shared), romantic feelings (but not necessarily shared).

Two hearts: shared warm and cozy feelings, shared romantic feelings.

Broken heart: heartbreak, broken relationship, lost relationship, broken deal.

Ladder (or reversed as Gate): situation that goes better, help; as Gate, obstacle, delay.

    Circle: protection, vicious never-ending circle.

    V: victory, success.

Iceberg: not everything is what it seems, hidden aspects, lies, something hard or impossible to reach.

Crossroad (X): decision to make, choice, doubts, indecision.

I made an elder futhark rune set from river stones that I had begun a good working relationship with. I lost my Uruz rune- vitality, animal nature, instinct, health, intuition. Soon after I entered my first relationship (which would end up being quite a bad one), lost my virginity (not so sorry bout that one) and developped/caught mono. Coincidence? Maybe not. I stopped practicing runes, considering the significance of losing my biological intuition rune. A year later I made a wood set that just never felt as good.

Good luck with yours - I've never considered making my own divinatory symbols because I'm concerned about balance between positive and negative. How are yours working for you?

I don't use it very much I admit it but it was fun creating it and working with the FIMO. The thing with me is that I love paper and books and I prefer a deck of cards than stones or sticks. Per exemple, instead of using a stick ogham set I use the deck Green Man Oracle which is an ogham deck. We all have our preferences.
